Two recently released polls indicate a dead heat, if not a slight edge to Chris McDaniel, in Mississippi’s Republican Primary race for the U.S. Senate seat held by Thad Cochran.
Citizens United Political Victory Fund conducted a poll May 14th and 15th which showed a 43% to 39% edge for McDaniel, within the 4.4% margin of error.
Another poll conducted on May 14th by the Tea Party Patriots Citizens Fund shows a 43% to 36% lead for McDaniel. Since the same organization’s poll on April 2nd, Sen. Cochran’s favorability has slipped from 64% to 48% while McDaniel’s has risen 15%.
Both polls were conducted prior to the past weekend’s news that a man broke into Cochran’s wife’s retirement home in Madison. While the McDaniel campaign has denied any and all affiliation with the man, it is uncertain how that could change the landscape leading up to the June 3rd primary.
